Brown Rock Salt
Rock Salt is the common name for Halite. It is also known as de-icing salt. Our rock salt is mined here in the UK.
Rock salt is extensively used for de-icing roads, pathways and car parks. Small amounts of marl give the rock salt its brown colour.
Salt works by lowering the freezing point of water, dependant upon the amounts used. Rock salt effectively works down to -10oC. It can also be used as a preventative measure to help prevent snow settling.
De-icing salt has low environmental impact when used responsibly. The effect on plants is varied, dependant upon the various plants salt tolerance.
